UK Food and Drink Pact

Building a circular food system that supports planet, people and business.

The UK Food and Drink Pact (formerly Courtauld Commitment 2030) provides solutions for a sustainable food system; one that’s threatened by and contributing to climate change through food waste, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and water mismanagement.

Uniting nearly 200 organisations across the food and drink supply chain, as well as trade bodies, local authorities and charities, the UK Food and Drink Pact, led by WRAP, is building a circular food system to protect the planet and future-proof our food businesses from farm to fork.

Bold ambitions to reduce food waste, greenhouse gas emissions and water mismanagement

Members of the UK Food and Drink Pact voluntarily commit to ambitious goals, led by WRAP.

By 2030, we aim to:

  • Reduce food waste by 50% per capita
  • Halve GHG emissions arising from the food and drink system
  • Ensure that half of all fresh food is sourced from areas with sustainable water management.

These targets align with global ambitions, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 and United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, ensuring that together, we shape a future where food systems support rather than deplete the planet.

“Our food and drink industry has a hugely important role to play in addressing the urgent challenges of climate change and sustainability... The [UK Food and Drink Pact] has been a great success in bringing organisations together to create a more sustainable industry.”

Rebecca Pow, Former Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

For many years, we have been working as a part of the [UK Food and Drink Pact] to meet UN Sustainable Development Goal Target 12.3 and halve global food waste by 2030. We also know that what gets measured gets managed, so we urge all retailers and suppliers to disclose their levels of waste so we can tackle this issue together in an open and transparent way.
