Name: | Bex Kitzinger-Kemp |
Role: | Project Manager |
“My role on the FREDIE Network is to be a gender advocate and, together with my Network colleagues, we organise events, review policy, suggest and drive forward initiatives, and support colleagues in any way can to improve equality, diversity, and inclusion at WRAP.”
Making a difference to the world in which we live is what first attracted me to WRAP; that, plus an obviously caring culture, where people and planet are at the front of people’s minds.
I would describe my role of Project Manager as one of a ‘conductor’, leading and coordinating all the different ‘instruments’ (people, tasks, processes, technologies) to create something bigger; getting the sum of the parts to work in harmony to achieve a greater impact. I look at the bigger picture, learning from and sharing lessons of the past, looking forward and assessing potential risks, and working with the teams to solve problems as they arise.
My week often entails updating project plans to keep us on track, delegating tasks, creating cost models for new projects, reviewing budgets and forecasts, supporting my team where they need it, liaising with stakeholders, and writing the occasional progress report. In terms of the skills I’m using daily, I would say these are listening, strategic thinking, planning, and problem solving.
I’m also an active member of our FREDIE Network, one of my biggest highlights so far from working at WRAP. FREDIE stands for Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement, principles that we’re committed to in our day-to-day interactions at WRAP to ensure that everyone can be the best version of themselves at work. My role on the Network is to be a gender advocate and, together with my FREDIE Network colleagues, we organise events, review policy, suggest and drive forward initiatives, and support colleagues in any way can to improve equality, diversity, and inclusion at WRAP.
Outwardly, WRAP is a global NGO at the forefront of bringing everyone together to tackling the climate crisis. On the inside, we’re an awesome bunch of people with a mind-blowing amount of knowledge who are proving you can treat colleagues fairly and make a huge impact on the world whilst doing so.
