Letter to the nation

The Prime Minister
c/o Ten Downing Street
London
England

Dear Prime Minister,

We write to you as Dee-Dee the deodorant, Rey the trigger spray, Yogi the yoghurt pot, Fitz the perfume bottle and Hube the toilet roll tube. Together we represent five recyclable items that often end up in the rubbish bin, but would help fight climate change, if correctly recycled.

Recycling us takes the pressure off the planet. It reduces the need to extract virgin materials like fossil fuels and precious metals and means more can be made with less. We don’t always become new packaging either. Fitz, the perfume bottle, dreams of becoming a Champagne magnum and Dee-Dee, the deodorant, part of a mobile phone. Hube, the toilet roll tube, would just like to be well-read, as a book. Sadly, too often these dreams are quashed and many of us instead become rubbish - lost forever.

With Recycle Now, we deliver this urgent plea on Recycle Week: we need your help to get the great British public to notice us, rescue us and recycle us, as currently over NINE BILLION of us are wasted, every year. Prime Minister, please encourage everyone to rescue us from the rubbish bin and put us in the recycling.

You know and we know that a zero-waste world is crucial and we’re the team to help make that happen. Simple solutions such as recycling items wherever possible can be a part of transforming entire systems.

Our vision is a world where ‘landfill’ is nothing more than a memory. Action is urgently required to make this a reality. We need to act fast, and we need to act together. So please, Prime Minister, if you would join us in empowering the British public to take action, waste less and recycle more we’d be grateful and the planet would be healthier for future generations.

Yours Sincerely

Dee-Dee, Rey, Yogi, Fitz and Hube
