WRAP Global, the international arm of WRAP working globally to expand the organisation’s resource efficiency programmes, has received key funding from The Roddenberry Prize to develop a bespoke programme to tackle the problem of food waste in Mexico City.
Richard Swannell, Director, WRAP Global said “I am delighted that WRAP Global has been awarded a Roddenberry Prize. The award is of huge significance and will enable us to deliver vital work in Mexico City, supporting businesses to prevent food loss and waste. I am very grateful to the Roddenberry Foundation and the prize judges for choosing to join with WRAP Global in our fight to reduce global food waste and its impact on climate change.”
WRAP Global is one of four awardees from the annual Roddenberry Prize, with funding being given this year to projects in New York, Uganda and Hong Kong.
WRAP Global will use the funding and its expertise to build new partnerships with the local Government, businesses and with other partners to implement a voluntary agreement strategy to tackle the issue of food waste in Mexico City. The funding will enable WRAP Global to scale up its approach to the problem of food waste in a large city context and along the whole supply chain; from primary production on farm, food manufacturers and brands, and with supermarkets and restaurants.
Meg Busse COO, The Roddenberry Foundation,"We were very impressed by WRAP’s systems-level, multiple-actor approach to addressing food waste and its potential to transform the sector, particularly as they scale their efforts to other parts of the world, including their immediate plans in Mexico City”
The initial funding is for two years, with work beginning in early 2019.
