In 2009, WRAP identified that fresh potatoes were one of the items most often wasted in the home.  Building on this initial research, WRAP, in conjunction with Amcor, Sainsbury’s, Albert Bartlett, Greenvale and Campden BRI looked into the reasons for potato wastage and investigated ways of reducing it. The project comprised several elements: a consumer survey, storage trial, packaging trials and in-store training.

This report summarises the key findings of why consumers waste fresh potatoes and identifies opportunities for packaging materials and in-store training that could help the whole supply chain to cut waste.
