The purpose of this guide is to:
- Raise awareness and understanding of the design process needed when developing recycling promotions.
- Signpost you to other guidance documents available to help you plan your communications.
- Provide advice on how to work with a design agency or internal design team to develop and deliver promotional material and the timescales involved.
Before starting to develop a campaign or piece of promotional material, it is strongly recommended that you look at the WRAP document, Improving Recycling Through Effective Communications, to help you plan your communications. This guidance includes useful suggestions for campaign planning, targeting your audience, maximising the communications mix and much more.
Planning your communications effectively will result in a successful outcome by linking your operational and key performance objectives to your promotions.
In addition, you should familiarise yourself with the campaign assets and toolkits WRAP has developed as part of the national Recycle Now campaign to help local authorities produce promotional material for their waste and recycling services. These can be downloaded from the WRAP website.
