Providing infrastructure in litter-prone hotspots

These grants were created to support the release of the 'Binfrastructure - The right bin in the right place' (RBRP) published by WRAP on behalf of Defra and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) in October 2020.
Litter on the ground encourages more litter to be dropped, so good bin infrastructure is crucial in keeping the environment clean and free from litter. Bin infrastructure relates to:
- how bins are designed to make them easy and attractive to use;
- where they are sited to maximise the chance they are actually used, and;
- the way we design and maintain our shared spaces to discourage littering.
Grants were awarded through the Resource Action Fund to support local authorities in England to purchase and install new bins and permanent signage in littering hotspots.
