Your Workplace Without Waste: Training programme
The training programme for Your Workplace Without Waste (YWWW) includes six activities.
Training programme
Although the activities can be run standalone, to get maximum results, we advise running them in order 1 to 6.
-
10 Activity 4 : Getting the measure of your waste - YWWW
Ideally, this activity should follow the hot-spotting and auditing sessions to get a better idea of how much food and packaging is wasted at work - by estimating and measuring it. This can be used to support priority areas for taking action to reduce it, divert it to redistribution and for working out the ‘true cost of waste’.
-
11 Activity 5 : What we can do about waste - YWWW
Use this activity to complete the interactive training sessions by prioritising areas for action based on effort vs. impact and kick-start the change
-
12. Activity 6 : Redistribution Module - YWWW
For use in companies that have redistribution and animal feed systems in place or are about to introduce them.
-
14 Activities feedback form - YWWW
After running activities with staff, collect feedback from attendees to ensure they are achieving results.
-
5.0 Train the Trainer notes - YWWW
Step-by-step notes to help you to understand the programme and train a team of ‘champions’, who then pass on the learning to other members of staff. Also includes general guidance on working with groups.
-
5.1 Train the trainer feedback form
To gather feedback from the Champions at the end of their training.

-
6.0 Trainer's guide: Working with groups - YWWW
This guidance has been prepared to help staff to deliver waste reduction activities effectively with their colleagues in the workplace.
-
7.0 Activity 1 : What a waste! - YWWW
Use this activity as an ice-breaker to start thinking about the waste that we produce mainly at work, but also at home. The focus is on finding out more - in a fun way - about food, drink and packaging waste, and identifying simple actions that could help us to reduce waste and save money.
-
8 Activity 2 : Where's the waste - YWWW
Use this activity to identify where waste occurs in food retailing and manufacturing, and to get people thinking about how to prevent it. The focus then moves to finding the real waste ‘hot-spots’ in YOUR business using a plan, schematic or process flow diagram and agreeing target areas to reduce waste and save money.
-
9 Activity 3 : Waste 'Treasure' hunt - YWWW
This activity involves getting out onto the factory or the shop floor and finding out where the waste (‘treasure’) is for real, as well as what it is, why it’s there and how much. The exercise helps to encourage the people who are the ‘eyes and ears’ of the business to recognise the importance of reducing waste and to take ownership.
