This cost benefit analysis is based on the design stage of a project to construct a new composting facility. The project value is approximately £3.2 million. The study found that there was a total potential saving (net of implementation cost) of 2.2%.

Overview
This cost benefit case study investigates the economic impact of the construction of a new composting facility.
The facility has been constructed in part of an existing quarry, and consists of 2 composting buildings with a maturation hall attached to each building. All structures had a steel frame with steel roof. This analysis includes a bio-filter and water treatment facility, and the hardstanding, external paving and access roads. Some complex equipment for drainage and aeration has been excluded since it is not commonly wasted during construction.
The case study consists of calculating the potential costs and benefits of carrying out waste management good practice during the design stage of a partitioning trade package. The Net Waste Tool is used to identify the top opportunities to reduce and recover waste and to estimate the cost savings from implementing these measures.
