Tackling waste at the Millennium Stadium case study

The Millennium Stadium is aiming to continually improve the sustainability of its operations, and this includes identifying ways to reduce and recycle waste.

Key benefits:
  • Realise cost savings
  • Eliminate waste at source
  • Reduce waste to landfill and carbon impacts

Alongside WRAP, the stadium has worked with its suppliers to eliminate waste from the supply chain. Potential savings identified from the programme amounted to over 78 tonnes of waste, reducing the stadium’s costs by over £21,000 per year.

The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff is a major international sporting and events venue with a 74,500 seat capacity. The stadium hosts sports, music and conference events all year round and offers a range of catering services for its customers.

Whatever the event, the stadium has pledged to support the aim of achieving zero waste to landfill by actively encouraging staff, customers and suppliers to waste less food and associated packaging and reuse and recycle more.
