Household Waste Prevention Hub: Different types of waste prevention activities

The main types of waste prevention activity covered by the Household Waste Prevention Hub are outlined below.

In the UK, local authority waste prevention programmes comprise of several separate waste prevention activities. Typically, each activity focuses on a single waste stream.

The Household Waste Prevention Hub covers each waste stream. These are:

  • food (including composting);
  • bulky waste;
  • electricals;
  • unwanted mail;
  • nappies; and,
  • textiles.

In addition, the re-use section outlines the opportunities for supporting and promoting re-use activities as part of a waste prevention plan.

This hub also includes example case studies from WRAP’s work with public, private and community-based organisations.
