25 August 2020 Report

Difficult to recycle products and materials

Increasing recycling rates can be achieved either by increasing the capture of products that are already widely collected and recycled, or by providing collections and recycling routes that are not commonly recycled, or that are not recycled at all.

The following products are covered in the report:
  • Card and paper
  • Hazardous materials, e.g. lightbulbs, disposable nappies
  • Miscellaneous, e.g. wood/metal furniture, ceramics
  • Glass
  • Textiles
  • Plastics
  • Organic

This project examines the latter; those materials and products which are currently 'difficult to recycle' in the UK. The project aims to identify what those materials are, and to explore some potential solutions to reduce their prevalence in the waste stream.
