Recycling Infrastructure Capacity Analysis

End destination facility capacity vs. waste arisings from Packaging Reforms

The Government’s ambition is to move away from a wasteful, linear model of consumption towards a more circular economy, where resources are kept in use for longer through increased repair, reuse and recycling.

With Simpler Recycling, now is the time for us to move forward to meet the challenge ahead and realise the economic opportunities and scope for technological advancement that the reforms offer. Working together, we can drive positive change, benefitting the environment and our communities, where the use of our resources is maximised, waste minimised and resources from nature are used more sustainably.

This publication written by WRAP and Defra is the first part of a suite of Waste Infrastructure Analyses and is intended to act as a visual aid to demonstrate the forecast capacity investment opportunity. This provides a signal to investors as to where there is considered to be a likely over or under-provision of waste management capacity to support targeted investment.
