Supporting on-farm measurement of food loss and waste.
This resource pack is for farm advisers, including field teams and technical staff in supply chain businesses who work with farmers, as well as independent advisers. It supports advisers to deliver projects with groups of farmers to measure food surplus and waste together. Working in groups helps farmers to identify differences and collaborate on opportunities to improve.
The resources available to download are:
-
Farm adviser guidance on how to deliver a project, starting with how to engage and recruit farmers, through to analysing data and identifying opportunities to improve, and all the key steps in between.
-
Farm adviser slide deck which advisers can use during meetings with farmers at key stages.
- Farm adviser data collection templates which provide useful examples to support measurement.
The resource pack has been developed through two years of farmer-led data gathering pilots with Innovative Farmers across a broad range of sectors. The approach is most relevant to fresh produce and has been found useful in the egg sector, but is generally considered less relevant to the cereals, red meat and dairy sectors.
For reporting on-farm food surplus and waste data in compliance with the UK’s Food Waste Reduction Roadmap, the field record sheet and reporting template should be used in conjunction with this resource pack.
