As part of WRAP’s work upscaling farm food waste measurement in the UK, we delivered nine projects with supply chain businesses and developed corresponding case studies for each to address on-farm food surplus and waste.
Opportunities for food waste reduction in strawberry production
Founded over 40 years ago, Berry Gardens is the UK’s leading berry and stone fruit production and marketing group with sales in 2018 of £317million, a market share in excess of 30% and a year round business supplying all of Britain’s leading retailers.
In these case studies, we follow the journey of Berry Gardens and its growers as they assess opportunities for strawberry waste reduction.
‘This project… has given us new insights into the amount and causes of food waste at harvest. As a result, we plan to do further investigations while tracking food waste with our growers at more points across the season.’
